Silpakorn University and PTTEP Launch "Ocean for Life" Underwater Sculpture Project to Promote Eco-Tourism in Koh Tao

On December 9, 2025, Assistant Professor Dr. Wichaya Mukdamanee, Vice President for Art and Culture, and Professor Tinnakorn Kasornsuwan, Dean of the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University, attended the launch of the "Ocean for Life" Koh Tao project. The event featured a seminar titled "Saving the Sea, Rescuing the World from Global Warming" held at Ban Yang Art & Museum, Nakhon Pathom.

The project is organized by PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) in partnership with government agencies and academic institutions to drive marine resource and environmental conservation. Key representatives joined the event, including officials from the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Kasetsart University’s Faculty of Fisheries, and the Koh Tao Tourism Association.

The "Ocean for Life" project aims to disseminate marine conservation concepts and raise public awareness about marine environmental issues and global warming. These underwater sculptures will serve as creative media, learning resources, and eco-tourism attractions.

Following the launch, the sculptures will be relocated and installed at "Buoyancy World" on Koh Tao, Surat Thani. This initiative creates a new marine learning and tourism hub that promotes eco-friendly diving, helping to distribute and reduce pressure on natural coral reefs while ensuring the long-term integrity of the marine ecosystem.

The sculptures were designed and created by Assistant Professor Mana Taiwattanakul, Head of the Sculpture Department, along with a team of alumni and current students from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts. This project effectively integrates artistic value with concrete marine environmental conservation efforts.
