Silpakorn University was established in 1943. Initially, four faculties focusing on arts and archaeology were established at Wang Tha Phra in Bangkok. Later, following recommendations from UNESCO representatives to develop Thai higher education institutions in alignment with international principles, the Cabinet approved a development plan for Silpakorn University to expand its academic disciplines beyond arts and archaeology. Professor M.L. Pin Malakul, the President of Silpakorn University at that time, subsequently established the Faculty of Arts as the university's fifth faculty and the inaugural faculty of the new Sanam Chandra Palace Campus in Nakhon Pathom. The first cohort of students began their studies on Thursday, June 20, 1968, a date which the Faculty of Arts has observed as its Foundation Day ever since.
