The Faculty of Decorative Arts was established on May 18, 1956, under the vision of Professor Silpa Bhirasri, and began offering programs in Decorative Arts.
During that academic year, Phraya Anuman Rajadhon (Sathirakoses) coined the Thai name 'Khana Manthana Sin' (คณะมัณฑนะศิลป์), which was later officially corrected to its proper written form 'Khana Manthanasin' (คณะมัณฑนศิลป์) in 1974. Professor Silpa Bhirasri developed a four-year curriculum for Decorative Arts (three years for a diploma and four years for a bachelor's degree). Professor Silpa Bhirasri served as the Acting Dean, while Luang Wichianphaetthayakhom (the Director-General of the Fine Arts Department at the time) served as the Acting Director of Silpakorn University (equivalent to President).

1956 – 1973
The faculty offered only one major, Decorative Arts, categorized into two levels: a three-year diploma and a four-year bachelor's degree. Graduates were awarded a Diploma in Fine Arts (Decorative Arts) or a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Decorative Arts), respectively.

1974 – 2001
The faculty revised and developed its curriculum structure to focus exclusively on bachelor's degree programs, phasing out the diploma level, and expanded into various specialized design disciplines.
